Taco States of America exists because the best tacos in this country aren't made by chains with advertising budgets—they're made by your neighborhood taqueria, the food truck on the corner, and the family restaurant that's been perfecting their recipe for generations.
This platform is built by taco lovers, for taco lovers. We created a place where quality matters more than marketing spend, and where local shops get discovered based on what actually matters: how good the tacos are.
HOW THE RANKINGS WORK
Every shop earns points through community ratings, reviews, and tournament participation. But here's the key: points don't last forever.
We use a rolling 52-week window, which means only ratings and activity from the past year count toward current rankings. This keeps the leaderboard dynamic and ensures it reflects what's great right now—not what was popular three years ago.
New shops can climb the rankings quickly with strong ratings. Established favorites need to maintain their quality to stay on top. The leaderboard is always evolving as the community discovers new spots and votes in tournaments.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
- Add shops - Know a great spot that's not listed? Nominate it.
- Leave ratings - Your honest feedback moves shops up or down the leaderboard.
- Vote in tournaments - Help determine which shops advance in our annual Taco Tourney 🌮.
- Travel and rate - Rate shops across multiple states and unlock exclusive merch opportunities.
- Claim your shop - If you own a taco shop, claim it to track your progress and respond to reviews.
OUR PRINCIPLES
- Local only - National chains aren't eligible. This is for independent shops.
- Community determines rankings - No paid placements, no sponsored results, no algorithm manipulation.
- Always free for shops - Restaurants never pay to be listed or featured.
- Transparent moderation - We remove spam and harassment, but legitimate criticism stays up.
